Hi all you journal decorators!! Today is the perfect day to stop by for some quick inspiration for your kids to create some fun covers for their school journals. We have a brand new collection of papers with adorable mermaids and sealife on it called "Under the Sea" so i thought it would make a perfect journal cover. The papers are gorgeous colors and you can fussy cut the images to put them anywhere you want to make a fun underwater scene.
To make my journal i used 2 pieces of each of the papers in the collection. The front i used the underwater side and wrapped it as far around as i could and then finished with another small piece to match it in the back. For the side like you see above i just cut a small strip of the printed paper and used it for the binding and then finished that off with just another tiny scrap in the white print. This is easy and will teach your kids how to measure and then cut straight lines with a paper trimmer and/or a ruler and scissors. And not to mention how to glue things on straight.
And the other pieces that you see above i just cut out of the printed paper and laid them out to make my design. I always do that first so i know what i have and how i can use the pieces and what i can add to make it even cuter. Again it's a great idea for your kids to plan ahead and then glue it down when they get it how they like it.
And after i glued all my pieces down i went back with some glitter glue and added little details to the mermaid and the fish and even drew in my own seaweed and filled it in. It's great for an afternoon project. Then i added some colored twine to the side to look like fishing nets and that cute lettering from our fundamentals alphabet stickers in black. So fun and such a neat project for kids.
