Then and Now

by Sandy Ang | January 15, 2012

I was inspired by Carrie's suggestion of using Nostalgia with a 'Then and Now' theme to create two layouts. The 'Then' project uses a couple of seventies photos of me eating ice cream. This collection has the perfect phrases and labels to capture my memory of ice pops costing only fifty cents back then.

I used the idea of darts and dart boards to create a segmented circle on my layout using the circular die-cut paper in the collection. It works really well to draw the eye from one layout element - photo, journalling, title - to the next. The retro look was completed through the use of arrows, tickets, flag tails and a hand-crochet flower.

For my 'Now' project I scrapped a 8.5"x11" layout about making Mimosa Ice Pops last week. The fruit pops were really easy to make. However once out of the freezer, they started melting almost instantly in Singapore's eighty-five degree weather. So it was a couple of quick snapshots before we ate them all up.

Design-wise this layout was inspired by Carrie's challenge to use a tag, a banner and a pocket. My banner at the top was embellished with the new Bling that's being released. Doesn't it resemble twinkling lights of a marquee ? The stripe pattern is actually a pocket that held hidden journalling tags. Those retro style phrases from the collection worked really well as headers for my tags.

I hope I've shown you a slightly different side of Nostalgia with these two layouts. And don't forget you can win this collection if you play along with Carrie's challenge this week. Check out the details here
