Ruby Rock-It

Tuesday Tutorial | Wedding Decor

by Teresa Horner | August 12, 2015

Hi Ruby Rock-it fans it's time for another Tuesday Tutorial.  Today i want to share a project i did with a plain unpainted wooden photo cube that i picked up at my local craft store for cheap.  I think it's a really neat project that you can do for lots of occasions and today mine is for a friend to put her wedding photos in when she gets married.  I used the beautiful Bella "Rustic Charm" Collection for it and just a few flowers for the top to really make it fancy.

*So to make this project you will need a wooden box and some sand paper.  Sand the project really well and put on a coat of sealer.  This way your paint won't soak in and you won't need so much.  If you would like the piece to be really smooth, sand it between coats of paint.  I used Americana acrylic paint in snow.  It's not quite white and went really good with the papers. And depending if you want a mat finish or shiny finish-- paint that on to seal the paint before you add the papers.
*Then measure and cut the squares for the sides and cut out the photo square centers using a square die cut that matches the size of the opening.  I used a new Spellbinders 6x6 die and it worked perfect.  Then i glued the papers onto the sides with adhesive and let them dry.
*Next you can cut 4 decorative frames with a die to go around the openings.  Glue them in place with adhesive and let dry.
* For the top i cut a square piece of the aqua paper to fit the lid and glued that down and then cut 2 decorative squares of the peach paper that matches the flowers and a smaller one of aqua.  All of those i glued on to give it beautiful intricate details with the papers.
*And for the flowers i used the double set of flowers called "Bella Paper Florals" and seperated all the pieces on both.  Then i reglued them together to make 1 big flower for my project to really make it stand out.  I scrunched it a bit to and mixed it with the floral set that has lots of grey, white and greens in it.  I also added some foliage using a die and cut it out of the papers so that it too would match perfect.  And to finish it i sprayed it with Sheer Shimmer spritz and added some clear glitter to make it shiny.
* And the best surprise is that you can open the lid to not only change the photos but you can put lots of treasured momentos in it to save of the happy occasion.  I hope you like my little box and have a go at trying one too.  It would be great for a birthday or baby or even for graduation.  Thanks for stopping by today and don't forget to leave a comment.  We love to know what you think :)  Cheers!
