Spotlight on Kim.....Ruby Rock-It Design Team

Today we're shining the spotlight on Kim Kendell.  Kim is one of our newer members to the Ruby Rock-It Design team and so we're pleased to give you an insight into how her creative mind ticks, the things that she is passionate about and what gives her inspiration......

How would you describe your style?

My style....well where to start? I would say it can be clean simple but also eclectic. I am very much in love with doing vintage layouts with lots of layers, lace and pretty things. But also love to do mixed media with lots of different mediums paint, inks, charcoal, and stencils

How long have you been papercrafting?

I have now been in the industry for just over 20 years. Wow that does sound so long yet it feels like it was just yesterday.

How did you get into it?

I had always been interested in papercrafting and wanted to do something with photos and coming from a regional area there was nothing in the shops. I discovered Creative Memories and did that for about 12 months and thought this is not what I am wanting to do then I discovered a Scrapbooking Memories magazine and went yes this is what I am looking for.  From there I have just followed trends and moved with them.

What are the main sources of your inspiration when creating your projects?

This question has had me thinking and I really would have to say that the main source is about how I feel on the day, so simply put it’s my feelings. I rarely scrap a layout based on a photo the photo usually comes last in my design, so create then worry about a photo.

Share a pic of one of your most favourite pieces of work:

Name a crafting tool/product you can’t live without.

My Cutterbee scissors, and inks love my inks, paints mists.....oops need to stop you only asked for one.

Share a tip or technique that you swear by.

Never ever compare what you have created to anyone else’s creations they don’t have to love it only you do. There is no right or wrong in what you create.

What does it take to be a good designer?

Confidence in what you do and keeping in touch with current trends plus accepting that not everyone is the same.

What’s the best thing about being part of a design team?

The friendships are by far the best thing followed by the opportunity it offers. I have been on quite a few international design teams and in 2018 I actually got to catch and do a class with one of my fellow design team members and that was just an awesome experience.

What do you like to do in your spare time? (Apart from crafting of course?)

I have always had a massive love of horses and have always shown them and my daughter has also followed me in that passion, so we spend quite a bit of time in that space. My other love is gardening I find I offers peace and tranquillity are a busy week at work.

What are your five top passions in life?

Family, Horses, Gardening, Crafting and Travelling

What two things do you plan to tick off your bucket list in 2019?

To live life to the fullest and to complete what I start.

When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?

A leading equestrian

What is your favourite quote or saying?

Everything can be achieved with drive and desire.

Best piece of advice you could give to someone.

Some advice that was given to me which is so true “Always be true to yourself”

Where is your ideal destination and why?

Somewhere that has my perfect temperature anything below 30, I dislike the heat.

What motivates you in life?

My love of life and family plus everything life offers.

What are the best three words that describe YOU?

Giving, Caring and a Thinker
